Signals & ABM
Cold outreach asks a stranger to care today. Signal-based outreach waits until something happened that makes them care, then arrives with a message that names it.
This course covers the signals Sync GTM can watch, how to turn each one into a play, and how to run those plays against a named account list rather than the whole world.
About this course
Eight lessons in three blocks: what a signal is and which ones Sync GTM detects, three worked plays (funding, hiring, job change), and the ABM layer that decides which play fires at which account.
Everything here is timed. A signal has a window, and a play sent outside it reads worse than no play at all — it tells the recipient you have a list and you are working it slowly. Every lesson states the window for its signal.
Who it is for. Teams with a named account list who want a reason to reach out that is not the calendar. Also the right course if your cold outbound reply rate has flattened and you need a different angle rather than more volume.
What it costs. Around 150 credits at the suggested volumes. Detection is cheap and account-level; the cost is in enriching the people at accounts that fired. Lesson 07 puts the gate between the two.

Skills you will gain
- Tell a signal that predicts a buying window from one that is just noise
- Detect funding, hiring, headcount, leadership and job-change events
- Attach the right window to each signal so plays fire while they still land
- Write a message that references the trigger without being creepy about it
- Keep an account list warm without re-contacting the same people
- Score an account on several signals at once and route the top tier
- Run a tiered ABM play with a different motion per tier

What counts as a signal
- 01What counts as a buying signalA test for whether a trigger is worth acting on8 min
- 02Signal types in Sync GTMKnowing which action detects which event, and what each costs9 min
Three plays
One lesson per trigger. Each is a complete play — detect, qualify, find the person, write the message.
- 03Funding trigger campaignsRecently funded accounts reached with a funding-specific opener10 min
- 04Hiring signal accountsTeams that are expanding, with the functional leader found10 min
- 05Job changes and promotionsChampions who moved, and new leaders in seat10 min
The ABM layer
Where the plays stop being separate campaigns and become one prioritized motion.
- 06Building a target account listA named list the plays run against11 min
- 07Scoring accounts across signalsOne score from several triggers, weighted, with a gate behind it12 min
- 08Running an ABM play end to endA tiered list with a different motion per tier10 min
What you will have built
A signal layer sitting on top of your account list:
- Detection columns for funding, hiring, headcount, leadership and job changes
- A window per signal, so a trigger that has gone stale stops firing
- A composite score combining several triggers rather than reacting to each alone
- A gate that finds and enriches people only at accounts above the threshold
- A tiered routing rule — high-score accounts get a different motion from the rest
Before you start
- A named target account list. TAM Sourcing builds one; a CRM export works too.
- SyncGTM 101, or comfort with actions, runs and conditional columns.
- A sense of your sales cycle length. It determines which windows are worth acting on — a two-week window is useless if your cycle is six months of committee.
Signals decay
A funding round is interesting for about six weeks. A job change is interesting for about two. A tech-stack fact is interesting indefinitely but does not imply timing on its own.
Every lesson states the window for its signal, because a trigger play sent late reads worse than no play at all — it tells the recipient you have a list and you are working it slowly. Lesson 01 sets the framework.
